LCD Soundsystem & Hot Chip - Geekalicious!
Originally, I had gotten the tix to see Hot Chip since I've heard them on KCRW and (now dead) 103.1. Somehow, I hadn't been exposed to much Emeline and, of course, I was blown away at the show. There's something cool and talented about unpretentious bands who are undoubtedly beneath their geeky exteriors. Minimal dazzling effects, just some smoke and strobes, but that's all you need for a full-blown, complex sound with unexpected little instruments that add amazing character. One downer to my evening was that my original date had flaked, and my ultra-conservative sis agreed to join me. I would've loved someone to get down and boogie with.
My reason for attending in the first place was Hot Chip... Forgot to mention that. They were wonderful, as expected! This was one of those rare shows in which I was jealous of the people in the pit. If they come around again, I'll splurge on the good seats.
